On Friday, October 2, 2015, more than 100 students from six northern New Mexico colleges will come together at the Hernandez Community Center to learn more about the value of networking.
The goals of Accelerate, a program of the RDC in collaboration with six institutions of higher education, and regional organizations and businesses, are to graduate more technical career students in STEM fields, better prepare them for career and educational advancement, and place them in jobs. Accelerate is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy/Office of Environmental Management, participating colleges, and by contributions from regional businesses and organizations.
C.J. Bacino, Program Manager, Diversity & Strategic Staffing, Los Alamos National Laboratory, will be the keynote speaker and will also participate in an employer/student panel discussion with Cathe McClard , Director of Internal Communications at Los Alamos National Bank, and Kelly Duran, Espanola City Manager.
Former UNM-Los Alamos and Accelerate program student, Sheri Lopez, will share how networking skills helped her find internship opportunities at LANL and YXO Inc. that enriched and altered her career aspirations.
The event is hosted by Northern New Mexico College and takes place from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Hernandez Community Center, just north of Espanola on US Hwy 84/285. Students will be paid a stipend to attend, door prizes will be awarded, and a traditional feast day lunch will be catered by Norma Naranjo from Ohkay Owingeh-based business, The Feasting Place.
